January 9, 2018 – ‘F-Day: The Second Dawn of Man’, an Amazon Kindle top 100 fictional story of the transition from our profit-driven reality to an open economy, may have more than just an element of prediction about it as it detailed the rise of an American chat show host to the dizzy heights of POTUS back in July 2016 when it was first published.
Oprah Winfrey as President of the United States is suddenly not as far-fetched as it might have seemed up until yesterday, and it’s not the only thing that ‘F-Day’ has predicted.
The Reykjavik Grapevine’s article on January 8 discussed Icelandic MP Halldóra Mogensen’s commitment to implementing a Universal Basic Income in the country, and yet she’s aware we need more than a UBI to solve some of the world’s biggest problems.
“This is not one change,” she says. “We’re not going to take UBI and install it in an unchanged system. It won’t work. The basis behind this is we have to rethink our economic system. The way that our system functions, the ideology behind it, is just not serving us in the future. Maximal growth of the economy in perpetuity, maximal production and consumption on a finite planet, is insanity. UBI will never function in this system. We need to rethink the whole thing.”
In ‘F-Day’, Iceland becomes the first country to adopt an entirely new economic system that’s in stark contrast to our current profit-driven reality, and, together with the help of our American chat show host turned president, they trigger a wave of change across the globe.
Oprah Winfrey’s popular for her focus on ‘alternative’ possibilities, positive development and potential solutions to the world’s problems, interviewing such forward-thinkers as Charles Eisenstein, author of ‘Sacred Economics: Money, Gift and Society in the Age of Transition’, who believes the money system has contributed to alienation, competition, and scarcity, destroyed community, and necessitated endless growth.
“As soon as I heard the hint that she [Oprah] might run for 2020, I immediately thought of Jean Carley – the headstrong and outspoken first female US President of F-Day,” says author Colin Turner. “I can’t think of a better analogy of this character than Oprah to shine a light on the dark corners of American politics and bring together a society that works for everyone.
“As fictional President Carley says: ‘Our disconnection with each other, with our fellow species from other countries, with our planet, with the results of our actions – no longer applies today. No more excuses. We are all in this together. We are the generation who are going to take responsibility.’
“The truth could indeed become stranger than fiction. I’m re-reading my book now with interest to find out what happens next!”
‘F-Day: The Second Dawn of Man‘ is available on Amazon in ebook and paperback formats, and will be launched in audiobook format on January 22.
